Queen Rose

September 2011

The Queen Rose Hiking Trail is considered one of the most scenic in South Africa and it is easy to understand why. The two-day, 26km, hike takes you amongst indigenous forests, over mountain passes, through the Montrose plantation and along the Queens River. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and wonderful wildlife that the Genesis Route is renowned for, including the 350+ species of bird found in the area. While the suspension bridges, 20 river crossings and various splash pools, where you can cool down along the route, make the Queen Rose hike much more than simply a nature walk, it’s an adventure. Anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and a sturdy pair of hiking boots can do the Queen Rose Hike. The trail is located in the Nelshoogte Forest Reserve between Barberton and Badplaas
